Racehorse ownership is an exhilarating experience that is unrivalled by any other. The highs and lows are aplenty in terms of the performance of your racehorse. The overall experience of the day, the expectation in the lead up and the feeling when everything goes to plan and you end up in the winners room is something that you will remember for life.
SNICKI MINAJ - HINCHINBROOK X MEZMAR
RACE RECORD: Summary: 7-1:1:0 Prizemoney: $72,875
This filly has proven to be a real favourite. Small by stature but a girl with a huge ticker and attitude. The attitude goes however when she hits the race track and she is all business. She was up as an early 2-y-old when she won her 1st trial in a canter after doing similar in a jump out. Her first race start was in the Listed Calaway Gal stakes where she had no luck down the straight. In the end she was beaten 3.1 lengths behind the very good Spirit of Boom and Magic Millions placegetter Outback Barbie.
Snicki’s next assignment was over the same distance and track and she recorded a resounding 3 length victory over her rivals to book her place in the Inglis Classic Race. She ran a super race in the $250,000 RL race finishing 4th after being 5 wide the entire trip and never being allowed to travel throughout the race. In that race she was injured and her second preparation on the track was disappointing.
She has since returned with an outstanding first up run at Doomben (8th February) to commence her 3rd preparation and it looks as if she has now made a full recovery.
STEEL PIER - PIERRO X APPRISE
RACE RECORD: Summary: 1-0:0:1 Prizemoney: $2,600
By one of the hottest stallion in the country Pierro after an astonishing 2nd season at stud were he took all before taking out the 2nd season stallion honours as well as finishing in the Top 10 General Sires list despite having only 2 racing crops. This colt was one that got under everyone’s guard and we purchased him at a 1/3 of what we valued him at.
Steel Pier’s mother was an $800,000 yearling who had only 2 starts before injury finished her racing career. On her second start she blew the field away to win her maiden and looked to have very good ability. This colt is not built in the mode of a Pierro and will look to get to the track later in his 2-y-old year.
NIC NAT NUI - AL MAHER X SHIRRA NUI COLT
RACE RECORD: UNRACED
We had to have this colt and it seemed others did as well with 3 parties in a bidding war over securing him. He is a big colt, typical of the best of AL MAHER’S progeny. He moves outstanding and looks effortless when galloping. He will not be an early 2yo but more so a horse that will make the track as a mid to late 2yo before showing his best as a 3yo and beyond.
The progeny train on and get over distance as a rule of thumb and you can see this colt doing the same. He is trained by Tony Gollan at Eagle Farm and as the distances step out, the better you feel this fellow will acquit himself.
MISSARI - MORE THAN READY X MISS OTTO
RACE RECORD: UNRACED
This filly is by one of the greatest stallions of all time in both hemispheres More Than Ready. She was purchased at the Melbourne Premier Sale this year and her pedigree features Mill Reef high on the Dam side. She is a filly we purchased with the view of breeding with if she can perform on the race track.
Her mother Miss Otto is the 1/2 sister to Stakes performers Oui Si Attitude and Miss With Attitude. Her features include a great eye and lovely head and whilst still having development ahead of her handles everything thrown at her out on the track.
EL CAMPEADOR - CAPTAIN SONADOR X GOLDEN WHISTLER
RACE RECORD: Summary: 38-7:6:4 Prizemoney: $279,300
By Captain Sonador this gelding is a quality racehorse and listed class quality on his day. He is the winner of 7 wins and close to $280,000 in prizemoney. A hit and miss commodity but a dream racehorse that takes you to the city races nine months of the year
The ground under foot is extremely important in terms of performance. His best performances are on a track that is on the dead side of good. He is a tricky ride and needs to be kept awake during the race, Larry Cassidy has proven to have good success on him.
MISTER SWAYZE: SPIRIT OF BOOM X MISS LEIBERT COLT
RACE RECORD: UNRACED
Boom Racing Thoroughbreds bred this gelding and as a foal was a very good type. As he became older he started to develop a swayback and that meant he spent time in the paddock rather than going through sales preparations as he was not a horse to take through a sale.
He was eventually gelded in the hope that could straighten him up somewhat, in the end it didn’t. We then decided to get him broken-in and went through that process without a hitch.
After a 4-week spell in the paddock it was into Lindsay Hatch for his first race preparation. He went all the way through to 2 jump outs and went very close to lining up in a race. He has good speed and we look forward to getting him to the races.
ABSOLUTE GLORY – OLYMPIC GLORY X ABSOLUTE FAITH
RACE RECORD: Summary: 2-0:1:0 Prizemoney: $4,600
Olympic Glory was an outstanding racehorse who produced freakish performances on the track in recording his four Group 1 victories.
At this stage of his stallion career in Australia he has proven to be disappointing. The more you see his progeny develop however they are looking to be 3-y-old types.
Absolute Faith produced at the highest level on the racetrack being Group 1,2 and 3 placed. She is by the outstanding stallion Not A Single Doubt who will become a leading broodmare sire in years to come. If this filly can produce on the track she will hold good residual value.
