The breeding industry is one in which you always continue to learn. The need to have quality broodmares is the most important aspect of breeding. It is definitely a process in getting to the stage of having a quality broodmare band with the prices of the sort after mares very high.

BRT Bloodstock and partners will continue to build their broodmare band over the upcoming years. The end goal is to have 12 broodmares who will hold their own through good and bad economic times.

RACE RECORD: Summary: 12-3:1:2    Prizemoney: $54,340

Owned in partnership with Widden Stud and Murray Murdoch. This mare is from an outstanding family and is a metropolitan winner. Her pedigree is full of high -class performers including Champion 4-time Group 1 winner CRITERION and Group 1 Doomben Cup winner COMIN THROUGH

1st Dam VARENNA MISS was a top-class Group 2 winning sprinter and has an active family with Pirelli and Peppi La Few both showing ability as well as having been bred to and producing a colt and filly by Superstar stallion I AM INVINCIBLE in the last 2 breeding seasons.

We purchased this mare in foal to Flying Artie and she was served by Eureka Stud’s BOOM stallion SPIRIT OF BOOM this breeding season. Unfortunately after testing positive at 30 days she was later tested at 45 days not in foal. At only 6 years old she is an exciting broodmare prospect for the present as well as the future. She will now be set to be served early in the new breeding season.

RACE RECORD: Summary: 23-4:2:1    Prizemoney: $92,750

We purchased this mare in foal to EXTREME CHOICE in conjunction with Bell River Thoroughbreds at the Sydney Inglis broodmare sale. She is a 3-time city wining mare who was trained by Leading Qld trainer Tony Gollan. We purchased her for $40,000 which was a great value buy with her being a 3/4 sister to Group 2 winners PURE ENERGY and SEGMENTS

Her 2nd dam OUR CURE won the Group 1 NZ One Thousand Guineas and it has been her progeny who have produced in the breeding. She produced a filly by Extreme Choice in 2018 was served by superstar racehorse and hot stallion SO YOU THINK this breeding season. She failed to get into foal which means she can now be served early in 2019.

RACE RECORD: Summary: 33-6:8:3    Prizemoney: $181,750

A good quality mare with prizemoney earnings of $181,750. A winner of 6 races but perhaps her best run was in defeat when beaten a head by dual Group 1 Mare DRIEFONTEIN in the Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Quality. Her Dam Stravain Lady has had 5 to race for 5 winners including 4 year-old Lady Jetsetter who retired with career earnings of just under $300,000 from 7 wins and her full sibling Dead Set Jet who acquired $51,100 from 2 wins.

Both these horses showed tremendous promise during their race careers. Unfortunately her cracking SPIRIT OF BOOM colt died in a paddock accident in her 1st year but returned in 2015 and produced another colt. Her 2017 colt produced an athletic colt in 2017 to BRT Stallion SPIRIT OF BOOM. This has subsequently been sold at the Inglis Classic sale for $75,000. She produced another colt in 2018 to Outreach and was served by SPIRIT OF BOOM in 2018 and is in foal

Pheonix Park was a 4-time city winning grey mare by Top class New Zealand stallion THORN PARK. Her pedigree is full of black type and her 1st Dam Steal is a half-sister to Group 1 winner ANGST. Steal has produced the high-class juvenile She’s A Thief who has already achieved Group 2 placed status as a 2-y-old

Pheonix Park is from a family whose female progeny have great records in the breeding barn and have regularly upgraded their offspring. She was purchased in conjunction with Bloodstock guru Paul Willetts and is in foal to the outstanding up and coming stallion PIERRO. She was served by the BOOM Stallion SPIRIT OF BOOM in 2018 and is in foal to that stallion.

Casual Witness – Star Witness x Casual Friday

RACE RECORD: Summary: 3-0:0:1    Prizemoney: $2,300

Casual Witness showed good promise early, on debut she started a short priced favourite after an impressive Doomben trial win. Everything went wrong that day, second up she produced to win before finishing 3rd and then on what to be her last race she again started in the market at Doomben after another impressive trial.

She pulled up lame from the race and x-rays showed damage in her knees. She is from a very fast family with her 1st Dam Casual Friday a Melbourne city winning mare earning over $180,000 in stakes money.

Her best thus far in the city winning Nicconi gelding Matty who has explosive speed. He had now won 6 races and over $150,000.

Casual Witness went straight into foal to Winning Rupert on an early cover at her first attempt. She will foal down in early August.
